Sogetsu Vancouver Branch

The Sogetsu Vancouver Branch was formalized in 1985 under the Directorship of Mrs. Kiyoko Boycott following her move from Tokyo to Vancouver. The Sogetsu Vancouver Branch has a growing membership of women and men who study, practice, and find great pleasure in creating Ikebana.

The Vancouver Branch is dedicated to the advancement of Ikebana in our area, and the improvement of our members in Ikebana technique and expertise of Ikebana. Furthermore, we embrace and respect many other aspects of Japanese culture and aesthetics.

Although not mandatory for students to become members of SVB, it is encouraged for the many benefits including the opportunity to learn, meet, and share with other members a common love of working with natural materials. The practice of Ikebana has often been associated with improved well-being with its meditative and thoughtful process of composing with branches and flowers.

Sogetsu Vancouver Branch has general meetings four times a year, with each meeting including either a demonstration, workshop, container sale or guest speaker. Throughout the year SVB members participate in several exhibitions in the Greater Vancouver area, and these events are open to the public to attend to view the Ikebana on display.

Ikebana classes are available to all. For further information on studying the art of Ikebana, please see lessons or contact us directly at sogetsuvancouverbranch@gmail.com
